What To Wear: Apple Picking

OApple Pickingne of the biggest must-do events of the Fall season is a trip to the apple orchard. We drive, children cozily nestled in
the back seat with mugs of cocoa. Along the way, we are entertained by the fabulous show that is Fall foliage. Our destination is a land smelling of cinnamon-laden donuts, bonfires and fresh apples, where the air is as crisp as the apples we are in search of.

Ok, so maybe that’s the version in my head. I tend to try to forget reality. You know what I’m talking about; the kids are arguing in the back seat, spilling hot cocoa on the newly-detailed carpets and flicking boogers at one another.

But since we all tend to block out reality in favor of our idealistic family traditions, whether or not to go isn’t really the issue. The question is… what to wear?

Though the weather can seem a bit moody this time of year, with the sun peeking in and out and raising the temperature significantly, it’s actually a fun season for fashion. We have so much versatility this time of year. The key? Layers.

First, start with something cozy like these mid-rise jeggings from Target.com in dark blue. Jeggings are an ideal choice because they’re stretchy and super-comfy, making reaching the high-hanging fruit just a bit easier.

Now for those layers. Start with a light-weight, long-sleeve Tee like this one from J.Crew Factory. Choose either green or navy to coordinate with the poncho we’re going to suggest next.

Finally, add a pair of boots. We like booties because if the sun is beating down that day, you won’t feel that extra layer all the way up your calf. The key is to keep the heel low and easy to walk in.  Try these combat boots by Guess. They’re comfy and will look super-cute!
