Family Fun at Moreau Lake State Park

As a mom of a toddler I’m always looking for kid-friendly things to do. My little one especially loves being outside. Recently we took a trip up to Moreau Lake State Park in Gansevoort, NY. And I’ve got to say, there’s a lot to love about this park.

Getting Ready

Once you’ve arrived, you’ll want to stay all day. So be sure to pack accordingly:

  1. Cooler with snacks and drinks (although they have a fantastic snack bar where you can purchase these things as well).
  2. Bathing suit and towels.
  3. Activewear for hiking.
  4. Beach activities (frisbee, bags, sand toys).
  5. Sunscreen and bug spray.

It’s a modest $8 to park your car here for the day. They have concessions and a cute little store where you can buy t-shirts, beach blankets and more.

Beach rentals are available for reasonable prices, like umbrellas and loungers for $8.

Facilities and Fun

One of my favorite things about this park is the beach! Nestled up to a beautiful, peaceful lake (no motors allowed!) the beach is ideal for smaller children and great for families.

Beach at Moreau Lake

In this park, there is an abundance of shade if you’re looking to cool off. There are plenty of picnic tables and several pavilions. Grills are available, so stop in to your favorite butcher and grab some burgers on the way up.

Additionally, there are two playgrounds for kids who are ready to take a break from the beach. There restrooms and changing areas/showers were reasonably clean and well-maintained.

A number of trails surround the lake, which make for a great hike. It’s not too difficult and the full lake can be walked in about an hour of time. A perfect pre-lunch activity!

We didn’t stay overnight, but you’ll see lots of folks love this park as a camping spot.

Check it out for yourself sometime. I think you’ll love it!

Moreau Lake State Park is located at 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831. It’s open year round. The beach is open for swimming from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. 10 am – 6 pm, daily.
